Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Ritsher et al. developed the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness (ISMI) Scale to measure the internalized stigma (self stigma) of people with a mental illness in 2003. The ISMI scale is composed of 29 items. This scale is one of the most commonly used measures of internalized stigma. The ISMI scale has been used worldwide as a measure of internalized stigma for people with schizophrenia, depression, leprosy, and AIDS. Tanabe et al. developed the Japanese version of ISMI measure and examined the validity and reliability of the Japanese version. The paper was published in BMC Psychiatry in 2016.
