Outline of Final Research Achievements |
High-accuracy quantitative evaluation of relaxation effects of the surface texture of pottery was conducted using FFT and Fractal analyses. The pottery surface must be measured at an extremely small measuring range but with a broad interval. These restrictions have prevented the use of conventional methods for verifying and evaluating "relaxation effect by tactile feeling." (1) High-accuracy FFT analysis revealed that hand-made pottery has a strong relaxation effect on people, although machine-made pottery has only a weak effect. Moreover, the relaxation effect of pottery depends on the manufacturer's talent: pottery made by a famous potter has a stronger relaxation effect than that made by an amateur. (2) The Fractal dimension of the hand-made pottery concentrates around D = 2.63 for a macroscopic range in which a tactile sense can be perceived.
