Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research project aimed to examine the economy of South and Southeast Asia to export tropical products at the initial stage. Production, collection and export of products such as sugar and cotton textiles in Java, Bengal, Coromandel and Gujarat were investigated through consulting the records of the Dutch East India Company. This research project sought for an economic development path in South and Southeast Asia, which was different from that in East Asia. Then, by making clear the process of emergence of the economy to export tropical products within the framework of the international division of labour in the Asian and World economy during the eighteenth century, and the research attempted to provide basis information for current debates of global history.
