Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study focused on selective trust in Japanese preschoolers who were relatively less exposed to foreign cultures and pepople compared to those living in other countries where previous studies were conducted. Children's selectivity in their trust towards native and foreign language speakers were sought using interviews and experimental methods. While in previous studies conducted in other countries, children showed a tendency to treat pepole with foreign accents nagatively, such tendency was not found in the present study.
Through various studies, a general tendency was found that children's allowances for foreign poeple develop over preschool years and greater exposure to foregin elements such as staying abroad, being good at a foregin language, etc. conttributes towards more realistic views of foreign people and foreign languages.
