Outline of Final Research Achievements

I focused on the knowledge needed to develop a control method against a destructive insect, Pieris rapae crucivora, which is a major pest of the Brassicaceae family that includes many economically important vegetable crops, and elucidation of interaction both P. rapae and Brassicaeae plants by headspace volatile compounds. Headspace volatile components in the growth period of cabbage was increased with growing, but the preference of female adults was increased substantially after 60 days after transplanting. Thus, no correlation between the head space amount of cabbage and the flying number of female adults were observed. From these results, it was found that cabbage volatile components that recovered by the newly established headspace recovery method was possible to attract female adults.
