Research Abstract |
Ceramide kinase produces the bioactive lipid ceramide-1-phosphate and appears as a key enzyme for regulating cell growth and arachidonic acid metabolism. In this study, to elucidate a novel physiological function, we focused on the transport of intracellular cholesterol. We showed that ceramide kinase is a negative regulator of the cholesterol transport from late endosomes to endoplasmic reticulum.
