Research Abstract |
While some cancers are considered cured after 5 years, this is not the case for breast cancer. Recent study shows that late recurrence of breast cancer is correlated with cancer stem cells. In this research, we investigated whether breast cancer stem cells correlated with late recurrence using immunehistochemical and inorganic fluorescence nanoparticle assessing MDR-1 & ALDH-1. Late relapses of breast cancer are mainly observed in ER positive tumors. Among these cases, MDR-1 positivity was 26%, and there was no significant relationship between the MDR-1 positivity and disease free/overall survival. According to ipsilateral breast cancer recurrence, we found that there was no correlation between MDR-1/ALDH-1 positivity and late recurrence.
