The early detection of atrial fibrillation (AF) is important for high risk individuals. However, the biomarkers which predict the new onset of AF have not been reported. We considered that high sensitive cardiac troponin T (hsTnT) could be a biomarker to predict the new onset of AF. The purpose of this study is to identify a causal relationship between hsTnT and AF. We analyzed the subjects who received a health examination in a small community (Uku town, Nagasaki, Japan) and went into Kurume University Hospital for a complete physical examination. In cross sectional study, we found that hsTnT was associated independently with AF, and the prevalence of AF was closely correlated with hsTnT levels. We confirmed the prognosis as a longitudinal study. We examine the relationship between the new onset of AF and hsTnT.
