Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Leukocyte cell-derived chemotaxin 2 (LECT2) is an anti-inflammatory molecule expressed in the liver. However, the clinical relevance of LECT2 in obesity and diabetes is unknown. The objective of this study was to determine whether serum LECT2 levels are affected by of obesity, diabetes, and its microvascular complications. A cross sectional study comprising 493 subjects were tested for LECT2 using a highly sensitive assay. The present study indicates that serum LECT2 levels are increased by obesity and decreased in diabetic retinopathy. These results suggest that LECT2 is a novel obesity-related protein and associated with the presence of diabetic retinopathy.
