Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We isolated lung cancer stem-like cells(CSCs)/cancer-initiating cells(CICs) by side population assay. Transcriptome anslysis revealed that a novel cancer-testis gene SMCP is preferentially expressed in lung CSCs/CICs. Gene overexpression and gene knockdown assay using siRNAs revealed that SMCP has a role in the tumorigenicity of lung CSCs/CICs. These observations indicate that novel cancer testis gene SMCP might be a promising target for CSC/CIC-targeting therapy.
