Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Mandibular set-back surgery can be improved social psychological problems and oral function, but there is likely to elicit a sleep-disordered breathing. We investigated the relationship between changes in anatomical balance and sleep respiratory function before and after orthognathic surgery, and made a study whether changes in the hard and soft tissues of the maxillofacial regions would become functionally stable indicators of orthognathic surgery. In this study, we revealed there was little changes in anatomical balance and relationships between the tongue and the hyoid bone positon and sleep respiratory function. Our results indicated that morphological change in a relatively increased soft tissue by orthognathic surgery would maintain a sleep respiratory function.
