| Research Abstract |
In this project, I researched a wide range of material on Shakespearean translatons and adapataions peformed on Japanese stages from the year 2000 until 2013. This included interviews with Japanese emerging playwrights and directors, such as Norihito Nakayashiki and Mikuni Yanaihara.
By re-reading Shakeseparean productions made in non-English speaking spheres and re-defining the various meanings of 'Asia' and 'Japan', I tried to 're-orient' the west-centred Shakespearean prudtions from eastern viewpoints.
