Research Abstract |
In this research, the author performed panel data analysis using the statistics on the long-term absentee rate in Japanese schools, obtained through prefecture-level school basic survey. This phenomenon of long-term absenteeism not only involves a tripartite problem such as the child, child's family, and school related issues, but it is also a complicated social phenomenon, influenced by such factors as population density, teacher-student ratio, economic factors, and divorce rate. In parallel with the above topic, the author examined the theory of "Ijime" (bullying) and "Hikikomori" (social withdrawal); both of which are relevant to absenteeism.
