Research Abstract |
We attempted to achieve an interspinous process fusion with an injectable composite material containing recombinant human bone morphogenetic proteins (rhBMPs) in a rabbit model. We could not achieve solid interspinous process fusion in experimental rabbit models even if we used high dose rhBMP-2 (150µg) and evaluated within a period of 16 weeks. The reason was thought that we could not inject rhBMPs in the interspinous process ligament, because the interspinous ligament in a rabbit was too thin. As a results in this study, it was difficult to make a rabbit spinous process fusion model in local injection. In the further study, we need to perform experiments using a large animal who have a thick interspinous ligament.
