| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は、サニテーションの根源である「排泄」を真に理解するために、ヒトと遺伝的に近縁な霊長類種の排泄を観察・調査し、ホミニゼーション（ヒト化）から排泄の意味を捉え直すこと（排泄の自然誌）、および排泄を社会・文化・歴史の側面から解明すること（排泄の人類誌）を統合する。さらに、排泄物の処理処分（サニテーション）と排泄主体（ヒト、霊長類）の生存と健康の視座を包含して排泄を包括的に理解するための新しい学問分野＝「排泄人類学」を創出する。
