Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、西ジャワの農民が1900-1920年代に異常気象や灌漑整備・プランテーション開発などの自然・社会環境要因にどのように対応しながら自給農業および商品作物栽培を維持し 幸福度の向上に努めていたのかを、オランダ植民地資料の文献調査と現地フィールドワークおよび自然科学の手法を通じて現代と比較しつつ明らかにするものである。気候の温暖化と極端化は現代の喫緊の課題であるが、植民地期に幾多の旱魃や洪水を乗り越え、異常気象や経済開発に対応しながら得られた西ジャワ社会のローカルナレッジは、食料の輸出向け大量生産 と地域向け安定生産の両立が求められるアジア現代社会に有用な視座を与えるものとなろう。
