Outline of Research at the Start

スリランカで国家暴力を経験した現地の映画監督２名（ラトナム、パラムクムブラ）と協働し、映像民族誌『The Red Spirit（赤の霊）』を制作する。1986年から2008年まで、日本は二国間ではスリランカへの最大の援助国であった（内戦終結は2009年）。日本による国営テレビ局の寄付、電網とダム建設、灌漑と開拓村への農業技術援助と同時期に、南部では軍と警察による共産主義運動の弾圧、北東部では内戦が起き、性的虐待、拉致拷問、虐殺と大量遺体遺棄が島中に広がった。憎しみ（krodhaya）と復讐、愛と甦りをテーマに、開発協力が生み出した大地と肉体と精神（心）に刻まれた傷にカメラを向ける。
