Outline of Research at the Start

日本は幕末・明治にも戦後にも、「不平等条約」として非難されることのある条約によって、外交と内政を深く規定されてきた。幕末・明治の「不平等条約」は、1858年に米国と締結した日米修好通商条約を皮切りに複数の国々と締結したもので、修好通商条約と総称することができる。戦後の「不平等条約」は1951年に米国と締結し、1960年に改定した日米安保条約であり、安保条約と呼ぶことにする。本研究は、修好通商条約と安保条約を、その形成と運用の両面において知見を深めつつ、通時的に比較するものである。
