本研究は複数の国籍を保持している人の現状を、当事者のライフ・ストーリーから明らかにする。同時に複数国籍に関して調査を行い、一般のとらえ方を明らかにする。また海外の事例と比較し、日本の現状の特徴を明らかにする。これらの研究をもとに、現在「日本人」概念が徐々に変容し、以前のような血統、文化、国籍すべてが単一とは限らない、「新しい日本人」が誕生しつつあることを明らかにする。
