本研究計画は日本・韓国・台湾の大学で行われるリベラルアーツ教育（教養教育）の自律的かつレリバントな再構築に資する知見を得ることを目的とするもので、そのなかで以下の問いに答えようとしている。
１．リベラルアーツ教育は学生と社会に対してどのような機能を負ってきたか
２．リベラルアーツ教育は高等教育政策上どのように推進されてきたか
３．リベラルアーツ教育は高等教育のカリキュラム全体に対して、どのような位置を占めてきたか
４．現代知識社会におけるリベラルアーツ教育の課題と可能性はどのようなものか
