Outline of Research at the Start

東京から南に伸びる伊豆・小笠原の島弧は太平洋プレートの沈み込みに起因する火山列であり，近年でも様々な度合いの活動を見せる活火山が火山島あるいは海底火山として多く存在する．東京から約1000km南にある西之島では2013年以降安山岩マグマの大量生成と，2020年の爆発的な噴火が見られた．また，その南方に位置する福徳岡ノ場では2021年に爆発的な噴火が起きている．2つの爆発的噴火は，地下からの酸化的なマグマによって引き起こされたという共通の特徴が見られることがわかってきた．本研究では，マグマの化学組成と酸化還元状態に特に注目し，爆発的な噴火の発生機構を探るとともに，将来の活動を予測する．
