Outline of Research at the Start	木造建築物や、内装を木材で仕上げた建築物は、持続可能な建築としてその普及が急がれている。その一方で、木材は火災時に加熱されると容易に燃焼し、火災拡大を助長してしまう危険がある。安全な建築物を木材で作るためには、火災時の燃焼性状を把握した上で、適材適所に使う事が求められる。本研究は、火災時における木材の物理的、化学的な変化（細胞水の蒸発と導管内移動、揮発性成分の熱分解と燃焼、炭等の固体成分の酸化反応）を予測するコンピュータープログラムを構築し、木材の火災時応答を物理的、化学的メカニズムに基づいて予測するための研究である。その成果は、火災に対して安全な木造を作るために利用される。
