単細胞藻の異形世代交代の探究に適した生物として,海洋に広く分布するディクティオカ藻(珪質鞭毛藻)に着目し,本生物の2つの世代それぞれを単独で培養することに成功した.本研究では,増殖や生残に関わる表現形質を定量的に世代間で比較し,単細胞藻の異形世代交代が持つ生理生態学的な意義の解明を目指す.
