Outline of Research at the Start

2050年カーボンニュートラルの実現には、主流な排水処理である好気処理と生ゴミ焼却をメタン発酵に置き換えることが喫緊の課題である。近年、メタン発酵の高効率化の手法として、導電性粉体添加により微生物間直接電子伝達を促進するプロセスが注目されている。申請者らは、このプロセスの律速段階と想定される“嫌気性微生物と導電性粉体の低接触効率”を、両者をゲル中に高密度で固定化することで解決可能なことを突き止めた。本課題ではその実用化に向け、本提案手法を用いた“新規連続メタン発酵法”の開発を目的とする。本研究の成果は、新規高効率メタン発酵の実現及び社会実装とカーボンニュートラル社会実現に貢献すると期待される。
