Outline of Research at the Start	本研究では、植物バイオマスを原料として、高い耐熱性や耐久性を有しつつも生分解性を有する、これまでにない新しい生分解性バイオマスプラスチックの開発を行う。木材の微生物による腐朽や化学的な分解というバイオマスならではの特異的な反応特性を活かし、生分解性あるいは容易に分解するバイオマス由来ユニットをポリマー主鎖に組み込んだ新規ポリマーを合成する。得られたポリマーを用いて、フィルムや繊維などの材料化を試み、その材料特性の解析と構造・物性相関の解明にもつなげる。さらにこれらのポリマーの酵素や微生物、環境中での生分解性や自己分解挙動を調べ、生分解性プラスチックとしての性能を評価する。
