Outline of Research at the Start

本研究ではニコラウス・ステノ(Nicolaus Steno, 1638-1686)の活動を、地質学や解剖学上の発見といった個々の業績からではなく、17世紀における広範な知のネットワークの中に位置づける。具体的には、「ステノの自然学探究における方法論とはどのようなものか。またその方法論の新規性あるいは独自性が、既存の知識や現象に生じた課題に対してどのような解決を可能にし、自然の諸原理に対する理解にどのような影響を与えたか」を明らかにする。ステノのテキストや書簡の分析に加え、デカルト、スピノザ、ライプニッツら同時期の哲学者たちとの比較を行う。
