Outline of Research at the Start	仏教とは何かという問いを探求するには、仏教全体を包括する学知体系に照準を定めて繙くことが有効な方策の一つである。中でも密教を射程に入れたものは空海による顕密の体系が著名だが、かかる体系は遡ってインドにも存在したのか。もし存在したなら、いかなる①背景、②地域・時代、③文献、④論点を巡り展開したのか。また⑤その学知体系は「僧院の日常」とどう関与したか。これらを明かすために仏教全体を「三理趣」（小乗・大乗・密教の教義と修行道の学知体系）という視点から概述する文献群、特に新出梵文資料三点（9-12世紀頃）の解明をめざす。さらに三律儀（小乗・大乗・密教の生活規律体系）資料群を用い三理趣との関係を明かす。
