Outline of Research at the Start	本研究は、教父アウグスティヌスが「現実の歴史的世界」における社会的・政治的な課題へのキリスト者の参与をいかに捉えているかについて、欧米の諸研究が陥っている見解の対立を克服するため、その主たる研究対象である『神の国』、8世紀までの教父文献中最大の著作を分析し、アウグスティヌスの思考を捉えるための新たな視座を提起する。従来の諸研究は、著作が属する文脈や同時代の出来事との関係を顧みない傾向にあった。こうした傾向を突破するために著作の歴史性を検証するとともに、受容研究の成果を援用し解釈の新たな可能性を検討することを端緒に、この著作の読者が導かれるべきヴィジョンとしての現世的な「生き方」を考察する。
