Outline of Research at the Start	本研究はキーパーソンとして胡適に着目し、日中両国、ひいては東アジアの新たなインテレクチュアル・ヒストリーを構築することを目的とする。とくに本研究が着目するのが、対面や私信などを通じた日本人との直接的な交流である。胡適は日本でなくアメリカに留学し、自らの学問的な基礎を築いたことから、日本人との交流については、これまでほとんど論じられてこなかった。しかし、胡適がアメリカ留学中、現地在住の日本人と親しく学問的な交流をはかっていた様子が、彼の日記や書簡から確認できる。本研究では、こうした人的交流を解明し、胡適の思想、ひいては日中思想交流の新たな一断面を明らかにしてゆく。
