Outline of Research at the Start

20世紀初頭の英国の前衛芸術運動に関して、その文学的な側面よりも、むしろ造形的な側面とその思想的背景に注目し、これに日本の琳派が及ぼした影響を、当時の日英交流史のなかに位置づけるとともに、実際の作例や関係者の著作を通して検証する。調査・研究に当たっては、特に英国最初の前衛芸術運動とされるヴォーティシズムを中心に、日本、英国、さらに米国に残されている当時の日英交流に関わる資料と、関連する芸術家やその関係者の造形作品と著述を対照させつつ、上記の琳派からの影響が、単なる装飾的な意匠ならびに構図の表面的な流用にとどまらず、当時の英国前衛芸術運動を牽引した造形思想にまで深く及ぶことを明らかにする。
