Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、絵仏師・画僧という仏画の描き手に着目し、江戸時代の仏画を考察するものである。これまで申請者が行ってきた古代・中世の仏画研究の方法論を基盤とするため、禅宗に関わる作例、狩野派の描く水墨主体の作例、浮世絵および大津絵は対象としない。個々の作例について、①図像、②表現、③制作背景の分析を行い、古代・中世の絵仏師や画僧との共通点や相違点を明らかにし、そこから江戸仏画の仏教絵画史上、そして近世絵画史上の位置づけを試みるものである。
