Outline of Research at the Start

18世紀のフランス絵画は、人文学的教養がなくとも制作・享受できる主題が主流となっていく。しかし、世紀後半にはこのような流れに抗して、伝統的な歴史画の立て直しを目指す動きが見られる。
本研究は、伝統的な価値観が崩壊していく中、芸術家たちにとっての「知」がいかに変容したかを探る。王立絵画彫刻アカデミーでの教育、王立特待生学校の講義、辞典・寓意マニュアルやイタリア旅行体験記などを資料として、画家の知識の「期待の地平」を明らかにすることが中心的な課題である。さらに調査の成果をもとに、古典的著作ジャン・ロカン『1747年から1785年にかけてのフランスにおける歴史画』（1912年）の日本語訳を出版する。
