Outline of Research at the Start	従来、幕末佐賀藩が当時最先端の大砲であるアームストロング砲を模造したとされていたが、近年では疑問視されている。本研究では、模造の実否を、先行研究が解明していない同砲の材質・製法を国内外の史料文献から明らかにして、また、先行研究が掘り下げていない幕末期に佐賀藩精煉方(科学技術研究部門)に出仕した技術者田中久重・蘭学者石黒直寛関連の史料文献を調査研究して、解明に努める。加えて、同砲を製造するには高度な金属加工・冶金技術を必要とするが、佐賀藩がその技術を有していたかを確認する。さらには、幕末期の日本の西洋技術導入到達点および在来技術で対応可能な分野の実態を確認する。
