Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、文壇と画壇を結節したメディア（新聞・雑誌）において重要な役割を果たした挿絵という媒体を通じて、文化の大衆化の過程を可視化・体系化することを目的とする。更に、挿絵をめぐる議論を特定の作家や画家の問題に帰すのでなく、文化形成の担い手としての文壇・画壇・メディアの各領域を見通す俯瞰的な視点を確保した取り組みを行うため、本研究では画家・木村荘八の未公開自筆資料（東京文化財研究所所蔵）に着目する。その内実の精査によって、文学史・美術史・メディア史・風俗史にわたる領域横断的な新しい発見をもたらし、汎用性のあるデータベースを作成し、文学・美術領域における大衆文化研究に広く寄与することを目指す。
