Outline of Research at the Start	本研究は、17世紀後半から19世紀前半の時代における英米のテクストにおけるユートピア／ディストピア言説に関するものである。とりわけ、人間がもつ負の感情を社会がどのように抑制するのか、また、負の感情（例えば、過剰なまでの欲望）をどのように利用することができるのかという問題が、この時期の英語圏文化の中での社会・国家構想とどのように結びついていたかを考察する。その際、単に個人の自由／自由の抑制、という対立ではなく、流動と交流という観点から、個人と集団の結び付き方のさまざまな可能性が模索されていたことも明らかにする。
