Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は「後発近代性」という問題機制を基軸とし、ともに「敗北の文化」の所産としての共通の特徴を有するとみなしうるアメリカ南部と近代日本の文学に着目、それぞれ土地にまたたくまに訪れ、いずれをも暴力的に席捲し、結果、その地に「文化的敗北」をもたらした〈近代〉の、それぞれの土地における反発と受容の様相をもっとも劇的に示したと思しき文学者たち――それは結果として、南部にあっても近代日本にあっても、〈近代〉がそれぞれの土地にもたらした違和感にもっとも直截率直な表現を与えた文学者たちであるだろう――をおおむね時代順に取り上げ、それぞれの「国」の文学が指し示す特徴を吟味し、両者の比較考察を行う。
