Outline of Research at the Start	本研究は都市史研究の知見と方法論に基づきながら、ホガースの版画と同時代の文学テクストを歴史的文脈の中で比較考察することで、これまで限定的な形でのみ呼応関係が指摘されてきたロンドン史、ホガース版画、文学作品それぞれ埋め込まれた社会問題、とりわけ貧富や人種、ジェンダーに関わる格差問題についての実態と認識を、領域横断的かつ体系的に解明することに目的と意義がある。各領域内では18世紀ロンドンが包摂していた社会問題との関係性は指摘されてきたが、本研究は部分的考察や表面的説明に留まらず、巨視的な観点からそうした格差が社会の「亀裂」として視覚化・言語化される位相を明らかにしていく。
