Outline of Research at the Start	19世紀末から20世紀初頭の英国国民教育の形成期に労働者の学生向けに編まれた初等教育の学校教科書におけるシェイクスピア表象とそれに伴う詩人崇拝（the cult of Shakespeare）の成立過程を解明することである。初等学校教育が教会による宗教教育から国家による義務教育（国民教育）へと移行する歴史的背景に照らして教科書のシェイクスピア表象を考察することで、シェイクスピアが国民統合の象徴として崇拝されていくのではないかという仮説を検証していく。
