Outline of Research at the Start

本研究の核心をなすのは、詩における静寂と喧騒（サイレンスとノイズ）の表現方法を様々な形で追求したアイルランドのモダニズム詩人たちが、電話・蓄音機・ラジオといった音響メディアの文化的・社会的・政治的な影響力をどのように認識したのか、そのうえで、近代においては紙の書物を主な支持体としてきた詩という表現形式の特長や制約をどのように継承し刷新したのか、という問いである。この問いは、①アイルランド文学研究において伝統的に取り組まれてきた「話し言葉と書き言葉の関係」という主題と、②近年のモダニズム文学研究のなかで大きな注目を集めている「音響メディアが文学に及ぼした影響」という主題が交差する地点に位置する。
