Outline of Research at the Start

「ヴィタ・ミクスタ」とは、元来は中世の修道院生活の理想であり、黙想や祈祷に専心して神との霊的交流をもとめる観想的生活と説教や慈善活動によって同胞のキリスト教徒に奉仕する活動的生活とをバランス良く組み合わせる生き方である。中世後期になると、イングランドでは、社会的地位のある一般信徒のあいだでも観想的生活への関心が高まった。本研究は、「ヴィタ・ミクスタ」という考えが、イングランドの俗語（英語およびアングロ・ノルマン語）で書かれた説教・教化文学作品、宗教文学写本において主題化され、さらにはいくつかのナラティブ作品や演劇においても主題として読み取れることを明らかにする。
