Outline of Research at the Start	英文学者・劇作家・評論家であった木下順二の民話劇『夕鶴』の成功は、戦後の「民話」ブームの火付け役となったが、若き日の木下が、ハーンにあこがれ、ハーン研究を志し、英文学者として身を立てることを夢見ていたことは意外に知られていない。政治思想の違いから、戦後、木下はハーンの影響を認めなかったものの、両者の代表作「雪女」と『夕鶴』を比較すれば、ローカルな言語や風俗を取り入れ、「異境」「異界」の価値観から中央の価値観を批判するという構造からみても、両者の同質性と関係性は否定できない。本研究は両者の影響関係と同質性と異質性を、オリエンタリズムを媒介とする再話文学の手法から検証することである。
