Outline of Research at the Start

今日ケルト諸語圏の人々（島嶼ケルト人）はしばしば「民族」と見なされる。しかし「ケルト」という概念は、19世紀後半～20世紀前半に特有なヨーロッパの学問的・文化的状況と切り離せず、ケルト諸語圏における内発的なアイデンティティというよりは、外部から貼られたレッテルという側面が強い。本研究ではこの二重性の理由を、①人種論としてのケルト人論、②「汎ケルト主義（Pan-Celtism）」の運動、③アイルランドの「ケルト・アイデンティティ」の創出という３点から明らかにする。本研究は、ケルト諸語圏に対する一般的な誤解を解くとともに、「ケルト」という概念に一貫した見通しを与える手がかりを提供するだろう。
