本研究は明治期の漢字字書を対象に、その漢字音が江戸期の漢字音研究をどう受け継ぎ、それが日本および東アジアにどう波及していったかをあきらかにする。山東直砥『新撰山東玉篇 英語挿入』、ジャイルズ『A Chinese-English Dictionary』、『日台大辞典』、カールグレン『中國音韻學研究』等に見られる日本漢字音をデータベース化することで、漢字音研究の継承の実態について分析する。これ以外の近代日本漢字字書、また日本統治期台湾および朝鮮で編纂された各種辞書、語学書等も博捜し、それらについても分析することで、現代まで続く漢字字書の漢字音のルーツと漢字音研究の展開についてあきらかにしていく。
