Outline of Research at the Start

16～17世紀のキリシタン資料（版本・手稿類）を中心に、外国人によって書かれた日本語のローマ字表記について、キリスト教宣教師による「東アジア布教」の一環としての日本語研究という観点から明らかにする。東アジア布教の拠点であったマカオ（中国）やマニラ（フィリピン）における宣教師による日本語研究と、日本語以外のアジア言語研究の影響関係を探ることで、近代に整備される以前の日本語のローマ字表記のあり方を解明する。
