Outline of Research at the Start

昨今の機械翻訳（Machine Translation：以下MT）は飛躍的な質的向上を遂げ、今後の日本の英語教育を考える上でMTの役割を考えることは極めて重要と考えられる。しかしながら従来の日本の英語教育はMTの存在をタブー視し、その効用について詳細に調査した先行研究は数少ない。前回の研究代表者の科研費研究課題で、MTの使用が日本人大学生の英語ライティング学習に一定の効果をもたらすことが判明したが、本研究は脳機能イメージングという新たな視点から、MTの使用によって学習者の意識がとりわけ言語使用のどういった側面（語彙、文法、構文等）に向けられ、習得が進むかといった領域に光を当てるものである。
