Outline of Research at the Start

The number of teachers in Japan has been decreasing and younger teachers face complex and difficult challenges at school. In order to adapt to these changing situations, teachers need to learn not only from "applied-science model", where they apply theories to practice, but also from "reflective model", where they become a problem-solver in their own unique context of teaching. In this study, an experienced mentor and a novice English teacher will work together to better understand the beliefs and teaching behaviours of the novice teacher.
