Outline of Research at the Start

How does studying a Language Other than English (LOTE) affect English motivation? To answer this question, we propose a longitudinal study of Japanese university students’ English motivation during their period of university study in a department where students could select either LOTE study or additional English classes (Professional English). Using a complex dynamic system theory (CDST) approach, we compare English learners’ evolving motivation in their L2 (English) while studying LOTEs with those who focus solely on English.
