Outline of Research at the Start |
This project explores how the dynamics of Chinese migration to Brazil transformed the ideas and practices of settler colonialism in Asia and Latin America between 1879 and 1909. The investigation of this topic will be conducted within a transnational framework, moving beyond the nation-based historical narratives that have dominated the field. The research aims will be achieved through the analysis of government documents in multiple languages, reports by intelligence-gathering missions, and maps housed in archives in Brazil, China, Taiwan, and Great Britain.
