Outline of Research at the Start

テングサを原料とする寒天は、近世から戦後しばらくまでは日本の重要な輸出品であった。明治期には植民地台湾でもテングサ資源が「発見」され、このテングサ漁場には日本の漁業者が参入し、採集されたテングサは日本本土へ移出され、日本で加工された寒天が海外に輸出されていた。これまで、日本の植民地統治の研究は農地などの記述・分析に偏っており、とりわけ海に対する統治の実態は明らかにされてこなかった。本研究は、植民地台湾のテングサ漁場という具体的な漁場を対象として、そこに関与した台湾側と日本側の多様なアクターの動きを分析し、植民地台湾の海の統治の性格に迫る研究である。
