Outline of Research at the Start	本研究は、近代日本の王権を比較史的に文脈付け、その本質を再考するものである。比較史的な文脈付けがこれまでになかったことは大きな盲点である。明治天皇の即位（1868年）から大日本帝国憲法発布（1889年）までの、天皇制の形成期を扱い、グローバル・ヒストリー理論にも学ぶ。同理論は、近代国家の諸制度が国境を超え「縺れ合う」中、制度の「同型」現象が生まれるという。一制度である近代日本の王権がイギリス、ドイツ、オーストリアなどの王権とどう縺れ合い、また縺れ合った結果王権に「同型」現象が生まれたのかなどを検討する。研究の眼目は、近代日本の王権の形成期にみられる特殊性や普遍性を照らし出すことにある。
